Huby & Sutton Community Shop has been awarded the King’s Award for Voluntary Service – the highest honour given to volunteer‑led organisations across the UK. This prestigious award recognises exceptional voluntary service and is often described as the MBE for volunteer groups.
We are especially proud to be one of only four organisations in York and North Yorkshire to receive this honour this year. It is a true reflection of the dedication, kindness and community spirit shown by everyone who supports the shop.
You’re invited to celebrate with us
To mark this special achievement, we are hosting a relaxed celebration and everyone is warmly invited – our volunteers, community shop shareholders, suppliers and, of course, our lovely customers.
Date: Thursday 26 February
Time: 2.00pm – 4.00pm
Location: Huby Memorial Village Hall
What to expect: Tea, cakes and a chance to catch up and celebrate together
The award will be officially presented by HM Lord Lieutenant, Mrs Jo Ropner, on behalf of His Majesty The King and we would love to share the moment with you; the community that made it possible.
A thank you to our community
This award belongs to everyone who has played a part in the shop’s journey – whether you volunteer regularly, support us as a shareholder, supply our shelves, or simply choose to shop locally. Your support has helped create a welcoming, community‑owned shop that continues to thrive.
We hope to see you on the 26th – and thank you, once again, for being part of what makes Huby & Sutton Community Shop so special.
